WHAT is a concussion?

A brain injury that affects how your brain works.

HOW can an athlete get a concussion?

  • Crashing into another player
  • Hitting the ground, wall or goal post
  • Getting hit by an unexpected ball or puck

HOW can an athlete tell that they have a concussion?

If they have any of these symptoms after a hit to the head or body:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Confusion or trouble focusing
  • Problems remembering things
  • Sensitivity to light or noise
  • Double or blurry vision
  • Irritability or sadness

WHY should I worry about concussion?

  • Playing with a concussion is dangerous.
  • You can't play well if your brain isn't working right.

WHAT should an athlete do if they think they have a concussion?

  • Tell the coach or other adult
  • Get checked out by a doctor
